About the Department

The New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA) is dedicated to supporting and protecting New Mexico's agricultural industry and consumers. Operating under New Mexico State University since 1978, the department fulfills its mission through four core areas: marketing and economic development to support agricultural businesses and producers, food protection to ensure a safe and secure food supply, regulatory compliance to maintain a fair marketplace, and natural resources management to promote responsible and effective use of natural resources across the state.
