Hi Everyone,
New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs releases its newest coloring and activity book this summer, focusing on the Land of Enchantment’s unique fossils. To celebrate, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science is proud to host an exhibit, Unearth New Mexico , that showcases these designs and lets visitors create and share their own colorful displays of life in New Mexico!
What: Unearth New Mexico explores a story written over hundreds of millions of years. Featuring illustrations by 12 New Mexico artists working with NMDCA paleontologists, the book brings ancient environments to life, from prehistoric seas to dramatic landscapes. Each page highlights a chapter of the state's distant past.
The museum’s accompanying exhibition showcases enhanced versions of some of these unique illustrations, inviting visitors to explore the underlying paleontology and connect them with museum exhibitions. Visitors can color the pictures and have them displayed on the exhibition walls. Participants are encouraged to explore where in the museum they can learn about each time period, find hidden details in each illustration, then make their own mark on New Mexico’s geologic history.
When: The exhibit will be on view from June through August.
Where: New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science, 2nd floor.
Why: It’s a chance for visitors to explore 385 years of natural history and bring it to life with their own colorful designs!
