ADVISORY: Commemorate Latina Equal Pay Day at the National Hispanic Cultural Center on Oct. 4 & 5
Hi Everyone,
Head to the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) for a two-day free commemoration of Latina Equal Pay Day on Oct. 4-5, including a Women’s Art Market, interviews with Latina leaders, and even a hot air balloon launch!
What: As designated by the organization Equal Pay Today, Latina Equal Pay Day highlights the wage disparity that Latina workers face in America. For full-time, year-round workers, the wage gap is 58 cents for every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic men. Learn more at equalpaytoday.org/latina-equal-pay .
NHCC will be drawing attention to these disparities within the community and within the arts as a two-day commemoration. On Oct. 4, the Center will host a Community Liftoff event, featuring a hot air balloon launch in support of raising the pay.
Then, head back to the Center the following day for a Latina Equal Pay Day celebration that includes a Women’s Art Market, interviews with Latina leaders, bookmaking, and scavenger hunts at the Center.
Both events are free and open to the public. Learn more and register at nhccnm.org/events .
Where: National Hispanic Cultural Center, located at 1701 4th Street SW. The Community Liftoff event will be held on the NHCC Plaza Mayor.
When: The Community Liftoff kicks off at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4. Latina Equal Pay Day will run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Why: It’s an opportunity to learn from powerful Latina leaders while working to combat existing obstacles to pay equity.
Thanks, Stephen
