Hello everyone,
Experience local flavor of “Three Sisters in the Kitchen: The Culinary Arts of Southern New Mexico” at Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site
What: Join Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site for a discussion of Southern New Mexico’s culinary history. Ranger Daniel will lead an interactive workshop on the intersection of food and culture in the US-Mexico borderlands.
Who: Free and open to the public
When: Wednesday, July 30, 2025, 12 – 1 p.m.
Where: Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site, Reynolds Store Visitor Center, 2350 Calle Principal, Mesilla, NM, 88046
Why: Participants will learn about the cultivation of traditional ingredients such as corn, beans, and squash. These three companion crops help each grow and are often referred to as the “Three Sisters,” which has roots in Indigenous farming history. Ranger Daniel will also share information about chile peppers, pecans, and pistachios in the region’s unique cuisine that combines the flavors of Chihuahua, West Texas, and the Rio Grande Valley.
