ADVISORY: Festival Ballet Albuquerque returns to the National Hispanic Cultural Center with Sacred Journeys V from Oct. 18-20
Hi Everyone,
In collaboration with Festival Ballet Albuquerque, the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) is thrilled to welcome back the talented team behind Sacred Journeys as they present Sacred Journeys V later this month.
What: Sacred Journeys V . Classical and contemporary dance combine with the eclectic music of two-time Grammy award-winning Taos Pueblo musician Robert Mirabal in this reflection of New Mexican cultures through dance, music, and spoken word. The duo collaborates with Festival Ballet Albuquerque’s artistic director Patricia Dickinson Wells and their team of talented choreographers: Vladimir Conde Reche, Dominic Guerra, and Alex Ossadnik.
Tickets range from $16 to $55, with a $2 discount available for seniors, children 10 and younger and NHCC members.
Who: The show represents a blend of styles and cultures led by Robert Mirabal and Jock Soto. Mirabal, dedicated to keeping alive the centuries-old customs of Taos Pueblo, is also a leading proponent of world music, and has merged his Indigenous American sound with music from Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean, developing a musical style that defies characterization.
Soto, who lives in Eagle Nest, has danced featured roles in over 40 ballets, of which more than 35 were created for him. The author of Every Step You Take and the subject of the documentary Water Flowing Together (the name of his Navajo clan), Soto teaches partnering and technique classes at the School of American Ballet.
Where: NHCC Albuquerque Journal Theatre, located at 1701 4th Street SW.
When: 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 19, 2:00 pm on Sunday, Oct. 20.
Why: It’s an opportunity to see the rich and diverse culture of our state expressed through music and dance in a unique showcase!
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re interested in learning more or speaking with someone about this year’s performances.
Thanks, Stephen
