Hi Everyone,
New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum invites the public to meet Emma Jean Cervantes, a local legend, in the newly installed “Her Land: Women in Agriculture” exhibit.
WHO: A champion chile grower known as the “Queen of Cayenne,” Emma Jean Cervantes left a legacy that improved local agriculture, healthcare, and education in the Mesilla Valley.
WHAT: “Her Land: Women in Agriculture” is a rotating exhibit in the central corridor at New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The exhibit features various prominent women in agriculture and their stories of resilience and expertise that continue to shape the agricultural landscape of the state.
WHEN: Visitors can learn more about Emma Jean Cervantes and explore the rest of the Museum during normal business hours (Monday – Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.)
WHY: Cervantes was the first woman to receive Phillip Leyendecker Agriculturist of Distinction award and worked to improve the greater Las Cruces area by establishing multiple medical centers. She served as a founding board member for the Chile Pepper Institute and New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum. Learn more about Cervantes here .
