ADVISORY: Hot air balloons launch at Rio Grande Sky Fiesta this weekend

November 2 and 3 at Los Luceros Historic Site

Hello everyone,

Northern Rio Grande National Heritage Area (NRGNHA) and Los Luceros Historic Site are hosting the first ever Rio Grande Sky Fiesta, launching hot air balloons from the historic site this Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 2 and 3.

What: More than a dozen hot air balloons will launch as part of the Rio Grande Sky Fiesta. The Zozobra balloon will be filled and potentially fly, weather permitting. Admission to Sky Fiesta includes exploration of Los Luceros Historic Site. Tickets for Saturday are $10 for adults and $5 for children 16 and younger. Sunday admission is free to NM residents and children 16 and younger, and $7 for non-residents. Learn more at riograndeskyfiesta.com .

When: Saturday, Nov. 2: Mass ascension—Gates open at 6:45 a.m., launch time 7:15 – 7:45 a.m.; Balloon glow—Gates open at 4:30 p.m., balloons inflated by 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3: Mass ascension—Gates open at 5:45 a.m., launch time 6:15 – 6:45 a.m.; Slow Travel New Mexico book talk with travel journalists Judith Fein Paul Ross at 1 p.m.

Why: The Rio Grande Sky Fiesta celebrates the area’s vibrant charm, culture, and close-knit communities, as well as New Mexico’s tradition of hot air balloons.
