ADVISORY: Kick off Hispanic Heritage Month with a celebration of Mexican Independence at the National Hispanic Cultural Center
Hi Everyone,
In collaboration with the Consulate of Mexico, the National Hispanic Cultural Center is proud to host a celebration of Mexican Independence Day featuring vendors, dancing, and much more!
What: Traditionally celebrated on Sept. 16, Mexican Independence Day commemorates the famous Cry of Dolores, which marked the start of the Mexican War of Independence and eventually led to Mexico fighting for and achieving independence.
At NHCC, the celebration starts a few days earlier. On Sept. 12, the Center will be joined by the Consulate of Mexico providing a formal flag unveiling and the traditional Grito, a celebration announcement of independence. The courtyard of the celebration will be adorned with Mexican flags and other decorations. The event will feature local vendors selling aguas frescas, churros, and other delicious foods while celebrating with Folklorico and Azteca dancing.
This free event is open to the public. Learn more and register online HERE .
Where: The NHCC Fountain Courtyard, located at 1701 4th Street SW.
When: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12.
Why: The anniversary of Mexican Independance Day kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month every year and reminds us to remember and celebrate a key moment in our southern neighbor’s path to independence!
Thanks, Stephen
