The National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) is thrilled to welcome award-winning author, performer, and teacher Angel Vigil for a free two-day reading and workshop event!
What: On June 18, Vigil will read excerpts from his new book, Borderlands – Living in Two Worlds: The Story of Hispanics in the American Southwest . His book chronicles the convergence of Spanish, Mexican, and Indigenous peoples whose lives have been tightly interwoven for centuries. It is more than a historical account; it is a profound exploration of identity and belonging. Then on June 20, Vigil will be leading a free writing workshop titled, So You Want to Get Published: The Nuts and Bolts of Going from an Idea to a Book on the Table . Don’t miss out if you are an aspiring author curious on how to break through the barrier of publishing! Learn more and register for both events at nhccnm.org/events . Who: In addition to being an award-winning author, performer, stage director and teacher, Angel Vigil is the author of seven award-winning books on Hispanic and Western culture and arts. His book The Corn Woman, and Other Stories and Legends from the Hispanic Southwest won the prestigious New York Public Library Book for the Teen Age National Award. His book Una Linda Raza, Cultural and Artistic Traditions of the Hispanic Southwest won the Border Library Association Southwest Book of the Year Award and the Colorado Book of the Year Special Recognition Award. Where: Salón Ortega at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, located at 1701 4th Street SW When: The reading begins at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 18. The workshop on Saturday, June 20 runs from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Why: It’s a free opportunity to learn from an award-winning author with deep ties to the Southwest!
