ADVISORY: New flamenco performance at National Hispanic Cultural Center weaves together two art forms in one spectacular show
Hi Everyone,
In collaboration with Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company, the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) is excited to host a brand-new flamenco performance featuring over 30 musicians and dancers on stage! Flamenco Fandanguero: Primos De La Raza Cósmica takes the stage on April 26 and 27.
What: Flamenco Fandanguero: Primos De La Raza Cósmica. This performance seeks to explore and connect flamenco and son jarocho, a pair of unique art forms that share a common ancestor. In doing so, Flamenco Fandanguero explores 21st century mestizaje, and Indo-Hispano, Chicano, and Latino identities and shared histories through flamenco and son jarocho.
Tickets range from $55 to $95, with a $5 discount for seniors, students, children 12 years old and younger and NHCC members. This project was made possible by a National Dance Project grant.
Who: The performance grew from a collaboration among internationally renowned flamenco, son jarocho, African dance, and theatre artists, and features international guest artists of son jarocho, Patricio Hidalgo, Yaratzé Hidalgo Sandoval and Sinuhé Padilla Isunza alongside New Mexico's beloved Yjastros.
Where: NHCC Albuquerque Journal Theatre, located at 1701 4th St SW.
When : 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.
Why: This newly created performance showcases the shared humanity and cosmic essence of son jarocho and flamenco, celebrating the beauty of our complex cultures and histories through the power, energy, and excitement of flamenco.
Thanks, Stephen
