ADVISORY: Nutcracker in the Land of Enchantment brings holiday traditions to the National Hispanic Cultural Center stage
Hi Everyone,
In collaboration with Festival Ballet Albuquerque, the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) is thrilled to bring a holiday classic back to the Albuquerque Journal Theatre stage. Nutcracker in the Land of Enchantment returns to the Center from Dec. 20-22.
What: Nutcracker in the Land of Enchantment , choreographed by Patricia Dickinson Wells. The beloved holiday classic The Nutcracker is transported to territorial New Mexico in the late 1800s, with elements of our state’s heritage and traditions incorporated into the story. These New Mexican touches include Spanish dancers, and characters that include Southwestern snakes, sheep, and shepherdesses, lively fandango dancers, a Storyteller doll with children, Mr. Coyote and Ms. Roadrunner, and, most recently, a dancing Zozobra!
Resplendent in classical tradition, this production of The Nutcracker showcases New Mexico’s unique heritage while maintaining the classical grace of its origins. The production’s unique style has led to it being featured in The Wall Street Journal and other publications. A live orchestra performs under the baton of Maestro Guillermo Figueroa, Music Director of the Santa Fe Symphony.
Tickets $16 - $55, with a $2 discount for Seniors, Children 10 and younger, and NHCC Members.
Where: NHCC Albuquerque Journal Theatre, located at 1701 4th St SW.
When: Shows begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, Saturday, Dec. 21, and Sunday, Dec. 22. Matinee performances begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Why: Over the last 14 years, Nutcracker in the Land of Enchantment has helped New Mexicans get into the holiday spirit by celebrating the traditions of the incredible state we call home!
