Regional GEAR UP Conference expected to bring hundreds of educators to N.M.

ALBUQUERQUE — GEAR UP New Mexico , a division of the New Mexico Higher Education Department, will host the annual conference for Western states’ GEAR UP programs later this month at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Between various panels, discussion groups and keynote speeches, educators from across the Western U.S. will analyze strategies and best practices to enhance their GEAR UP programs, which help prepare middle and high school students better for colleges and careers.

More than 400 education professionals are expected to attend.

WHAT: The 2024 GEAR UP West Conference, a convening of educators, researchers, teachers and education advocates from Western states, focused on strategies for preparing middle and high school students for postsecondary education and career success.

GEAR UP New Mexico, a federally funded program, partners with seven school districts in the state that serve a high proportion of rural and first-generation students, helping those students prepare for college and careers in New Mexico.
