Hello everyone,
WHAT: New Mexico Archaeology is on the road to your hometown with a hands-on experience in history.
WHY: We’re bringing history home for New Mexicans. We will have one of three programs at each library: either a rock art lesson and make-your-own-petroglyph activity, a lesson on Native American ceramics with a paint-a-replica-potsherd activity, or a lesson on archaeology and New Mexico history.
WHEN/WHERE: July 8, Carlsbad Library, 3:00-4:00 p.m., visitors will create their own petroglyphs on sand boards.
July 9, Hobbs Library, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., visitors will create their own petroglyphs on sand boards.
July 16, Jemez Springs Library, 11:00 a.m.-noon, visitors will create their own petroglyphs on sand boards.
July 23, Los Lunas Library, 11:00 a.m.-noon, visitors will create their own petroglyphs on sand boards.
July 25, Corona Museum of Frontier Life, 2:00-6:00 p.m., visitors will view an array of historic artifacts that are for touching, exploring, and discussing as part of Corona Days. Events include a rodeo, a dance, a book sale, and an ice cream social at the library, and our fantastic touch-and-feel tabletop museum of artifacts and replicas to examine and discuss, 2:00-6:00 p.m.
July 26, White Rock Library, 9:00 a.m.-noon, Street Fair Anniversary Festival for the library, explore and discuss New Mexico archaeology with us, and help the library celebrate its 10th anniversary of the White Rock Branch Library. This fun-filled anniversary street fair for kids of all ages will celebrate a decade of community, creativity, and discovery at the library. The OAS will be there with our touch-and-feel tabletop museum and lessons in how to build a traditional split-twig figure.
July 30, 1:00-2:00 p.m., Zuni Library, visitors will create their own petroglyphs on sand boards.
