Dear Families, Providers, Educators, and Community Members,

Over the next several weeks, the Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD) team and I will host virtual and in-person community conversations to talk about what’s next for New Mexico’s universal child care initiative. New Mexico will become the first state in the nation to offer no-cost universal child care starting November 1, extending access to families regardless of income and saving families an average of $12,000 per child each year. This historic investment strengthens family stability, supports the workforce, and positions New Mexico as a national model for building a strong and sustainable early learning system.

This milestone belongs to all of us. Families, educators, child care providers, business leaders, and community partners who have worked side by side to build one of the most comprehensive, innovative, and quality early childhood systems in the country. Now, as we prepare to take this big step to fulfill the promise to New Mexico families together, your voice and experiences are more important than ever.

We know that with this change comes a lot of questions—and that’s why ECECD is hitting the road this fall and hosting our first virtual office hours starting next Monday, October 28, 2025. These community conversations are a chance for us to connect to answer your questions and share what families and providers can expect in the months ahead.

Most sessions will include a short presentation followed by a Q&A. ECECD is committed to ensuring families and providers have clear, up-to-date information about what Universal Child Care means in practice, how it works, who it helps, and where to find helpful resources.

How You Can Help Spread the Word

Everyone has a role to play in sharing Universal Child Care resources with their community:

Schools : Share invites to the events with families by email or text, print and post them in entryways and classrooms.

Families : Forward ECECD emails, share our posts on social media, and tell a friend about upcoming events.

Providers and Educators : Include Universal Child Care resources in your newsletters, parent packets, and send-home materials.

Community Partners : Print and display flyers, include links in your own communications, and encourage families to join upcoming sessions.

A partir del 1 de noviembre, Nuevo México se convertirá en el primer estado del país en ofrecer cuidado infantil universal sin costo, ampliando el acceso a las familias sin importar sus ingresos y ahorrándoles un promedio de $12,000 por niño cada año . Esta histórica inversión fortalece la estabilidad familiar, apoya a la fuerza laboral y posiciona a Nuevo México como un modelo nacional en la construcción de un sistema de aprendizaje temprano sólido y sostenible.

Este logro nos pertenece a todos. Familias, educadores, proveedores de cuidado infantil, líderes empresariales y socios comunitarios han trabajado juntos para construir uno de los sistemas de educación y cuidado infantil más integrales, innovadores y de calidad del país. Ahora, mientras nos preparamos para dar este gran paso y cumplir nuestra promesa a las familias de Nuevo México, su voz y sus experiencias son más importantes que nunca.

Sabemos que con este cambio surgen muchas preguntas, y por eso el ECECD recorrerá el estado este otoño y ofrecerá sus primeras horas de oficina virtuales a partir del lunes, 28 de octubre de 2025 . Estas conversaciones comunitarias serán una oportunidad para conectarnos, responder sus preguntas y compartir lo que las familias y los proveedores pueden esperar en los próximos meses.

La mayoría de las sesiones incluirán una breve presentación seguida de una sesión de preguntas y respuestas.
