Little Steps Pediatrics becomes New Mexico's first Breastfeeding-Friendly Clinic A Las Cruces pediatric practice has become the first clinic in New Mexico to earn the Breastfeeding-Friendly Clinic Initiative (BFCI) endorsement — a designation jointly recognized by the New Mexico Breastfeeding Task Force and ECECD. The endorsement recognizes Little Steps Pediatrics for its commitment to supporting lactating families through evidence-based practices, on-site lactation support, comprehensive staff training, and a clinical environment that actively promotes human milk feeding.
The BFCI is a statewide initiative focused on improving infant feeding support, education, and resources for families. With Little Steps now endorsed, the program has its first clinical anchor — and a model for clinics across New Mexico to follow.

01 Community Coalition Spotlight: Chaves County Early Childhood Coalition Why it matters: This issue's spotlight highlights the Chaves County Early Childhood Coalition in Roswell, whose mission is to build a unified voice advocating for equitable, high-quality early childhood education across the county. Recent partnerships with Roswell Independent School District and Tobosa Home Visiting have delivered early literacy training featuring Jake Daggett, a successful Literacy Night, a Healthy Cooking event with the Department of Health, and a presence at Children's Day at the Roundhouse. 02 Research New Mexico PreK assessed 17,000 children for Executive Function — and the data goes back to the classroom Why it matters: NM PreK has completed its first full year of Minnesota Executive Function Assessments , with more than 17,000 children successfully assessed. The results will now inform lesson planning and individual learning paths. Executive function — working memory, cognitive flexibility, impulse control — predicts academic and social-emotional success better than IQ, and unlike IQ, it can be improved through classroom practice.
