Black Friday launch for energy-efficient rebates

Save big on electric stoves, dryers, and breaker boxes

SANTA FE – This Black Friday, low-income New Mexico families can save big while making their homes more energy-efficient. Starting November 29, the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD) will roll out the second phase of its Home Electrification and Appliance Rebate (HEAR) program, offering rebates on ENERGY STAR® electric stoves, heat pump dryers, and breaker box upgrades.

“We are excited to launch phase two of the HEAR program to include appliances and upgrades,” said EMNRD Sec. Designate Melanie Kenderdine . “These rebates make it easier for New Mexicans to save money, improve their homes and embrace clean energy.”

Backed by $43 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy through the Biden Administration’s Inflation Reduction Act, the HEAR program aims to make clean energy affordable for low-income families across New Mexico.

Starting November 29, residents can qualify for the following rebates:

Electric heat pump clothes dryer: $840

Electric stove, cooktop, range or oven: $840

Electric load service center: $4,000*

Electric wiring: $2,500*

More than 200 energy-efficient appliances will qualify for HEAR program rebates.

To apply for the for the rebates, visit: CleanEnergy.nm.gov to check your eligibility, view

detailed program information and submit your application. The website also provides details on additional tax incentive programs.

“Residents can quickly check their eligibility for these programs by entering their zip code," said Rebecca “Puck” Stair director for the Energy Conservation and Management Division (ECAM). “We’re committed to making this process as easy and accessible as possible.”

Who qualifies?

The program is open to New Mexico residents who meet these criteria:

Earning below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) or

Participating in specific benefit programs like Medicaid or SNAP.

Program Highlights

Households can receive up to $14,000 in rebates.

Phase one launched in September offering rebates for self-installed home insulation.

Phase two begins November 29, focusing on home appliances and electric upgrades. Contractors must be certified through ECAM and the New Mexico Construction Industries Division. *Rebate available exclusively for qualifying electrification upgrades.

“Black Friday is the perfect time to launch this phase,” added Kenderdine. “We’re making energy savings accessible for New Mexicans while supporting a cleaner, more sustainable future.”
