Hunter Education Classes are

Filling up Fast!

Did you know: before purchasing a game-hunting license, or applying for the big-game draw, all hunters 17 years of age and younger must obtain a hunter education number issued by New Mexico or another state or possess a New Mexico mentor-youth number?

Classes fill up quickly, so sign up today! Our volunteer instructors and Department staff are listing more classes every day:

Check out our list of statewide classes here .

Enroll for a class by logging into or creating a customer account and clicking on Hunter Education.

Under 18 and wanting to operate an OHV on public land? Make sure you take an OHV class today.

Even if you are just waiting until the trails are clear and the weather is warmer, it is important to prepare to take to the trails safely.

Any person under 18 who wants to grab the throttle and go will need safety training before operating an OHV.

OHV in person classes are currently scheduled in Roswell and Los Lunas. There is also a Motorcycle class scheduled in Albuquerque.

Enroll for a class by logging into or creating a customer account and clicking on Off-Highway Vehicle.

For more information, contact the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish OHV program office at (505) 222-4712 or send email to DGF-OHVEDU@dgf.nm.gov .

Attention Hunters: Now is the time to start giving back

Interested in becoming a volunteer or a hunter education instructor?

These are the steps that it takes to become a volunteer for the Department.

Start by emailing the Volunteer Coordinator, Chris Jarvis , and letting him know that you are interested in volunteering. Chris will send you the volunteer application forms.

Fill out the forms and return them to Chris Jarvis. When your application forms are returned, the Department will conduct a background check for any felony convictions or flagrant violations of Game and Fish laws.

Upon passing the background check, you will be asked to complete a free online ChildSafe course that generally takes about an hour.

Once we have received your ChildSafe certificate, you will be cleared to volunteer and we will add you to our volunteer system.

If you are interested in becoming a hunter education instructor, we will connect you with that department so you can register for an upcoming workshop.

Upcoming new Hunter Education Instructor workshops:

March 2, 2024 in Bluewater

April 20, 2024 in Albuquerque
