Hello everyone,
WHAT: Connect with the Pueblos and experience firsthand the different Indigenous artistic traditions as local Pueblo artists share how they craft their traditional and contemporary art. WHEN: July – October, Sundays, 10:00 a.m.-4 p.m. WHERE: Coronado Historic Site, 485 Kuaua Rd. Bernalillo, NM WHY: To showcase Native American Pueblo artists to the public, help visitors get a better understanding of Pueblo culture and heritage through interaction, and learn about Coronado Historic Site. - July 5: Artist Demonstration, Hopi pottery artist Valerie Namoki will be showing how she creates her polychrome pottery figurines and ornaments. - August 2: Hopi wood carver Randy Brokeshoulder from Third Mesa, Arizona, will be showing how he creates his wood figurines from cottonwood root. - September 6: A painter specializing in acrylic on canvas, Marcus Moquino who is Kewa and Hopi will showcase his work and techniques. - October 4: Textile weaver Louie Garcia will show how he produces his art using different techniques, styles, and materials. Fee: $7 for non-New Mexico residents, free for MNMF members, FCJHS, children under 16, people with tribal affiliation, and all New Mexico residents with proof of address. Tables and chairs will be provided as well as tablecloths and possibly access to electric outlets.
