About the Martinez/Yazzie Action Plan
The Martinez/Yazzie Action Plan is New Mexico’s formal response to the landmark court ruling that found the state failed to meet its constitutional obligation to provide a uniform and sufficient education for all students. The action plan is being developed by the New Mexico Public Education Department in partnership with the LANL Foundation, WestEd, and the Legislative Education Study Committee. It focuses on five court-mandated areas: access to high-quality instruction, culturally and linguistically responsive educators, academic and behavioral supports, equitable funding, and data-driven accountability. The planning process includes statewide community engagement to ensure the plan reflects the voices and needs of students, families, educators and tribal communities across New Mexico.
The New Mexico Public Education Department partners with educators, communities and families to ensure that all students are healthy, secure in their identity and holistically prepared for college, career and life. Currently, the PED serves about 320,000 students in 189 districts and charter schools. Find an abundance of resources for administrators, educators, families and students at New Mexico Public Education Department (state.nm.us) or follow the PED on Facebook and Instagram .
