Happy Fourth of July
. LETTER FROM THE SECRETARY
Summer is in full swing, and so is our work to build a stronger, more connected New Mexico for older adults, adults with disabilities and caregivers. I am excited to share a few highlights of what is ahead for the Aging and Long-Term Services Department in this new fiscal year. First, mark your calendars for this year’s Conference on Aging September 23-25th in Glorieta! With the theme, “EngAGE as you Age,” this year’s conference will feature three full days of engaging educational sessions including New MexiCare, supported decision-making, financial planning and caregiver resources. There will also be wellness and recreational activities, cultural performances, a social dance and opportunities to connect with other caregivers, advocates and older adults from across the state.
We are also proud to share that the rules for the Kinship Caregiver Support Pilot Program are now available for public comment. This new pilot is designed to assist those who are raising children outside of the traditional foster care system by helping them access services, legal resources, and financial support. Over the past several weeks, I have had the privilege of visiting senior centers around the state. I have been inspired by the resilience, compassion and wisdom of those who I have met. For those of you in southwestern New Mexico, I invite you to join me at Cabinet in your Community on July 17th in Silver City. This is your time to meet with all members of the Governor’s Cabinet, ask questions, and connect directly with state agencies in your area. There will be a state expo from 3:00 – 6:30 p.m. at the Grant County Conference Center followed by a Town Hall starting at 5:30 p.m. I hope to see you there!
Thank you for being part of this work. Together, we are building a New Mexico where we can all age with confidence, connection and care.
Warmly,
