Hello everyone,
What: Hands-on activities, demonstrations, and guided tours are some of the family-friendly events at Fort Stanton. The fort was established in 1855 as a military outpost and is one of the most intact 19 th -century military forts in the United States today. The fort served the people of New Mexico during the Territorial era, and its impressive history and mission continued into the 20 th century.
- 10:00 a.m. Flag Raising Ceremony - 11:00 a.m. Ranger-guided tour of the original Post Cemetery - 1:00 p.m. Join Interpretive Ranger Javier in the barracks for a step-by-step paper-making demonstration. After the presentation, explore the site, then watch the flag lowering at 3:45 p.m.
WHEN: Sunday, July 5, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
WHERE: Fort Stanton Historic Site, 105 Kit Carson Road, Fort Stanton, NM.
Admission to the site and activities is FREE to New Mexico residents on First Sunday, as well as to children 16 and younger, NM disabled veterans, NM foster families, Fort Stanton, Inc. members, and MNMF members. Admission for non-residents is $7 for adults.
