Color us the best

New Mexico’s standard turquoise license plate judged No. 1 in the U.S.

SANTA FE ­– New Mexico’s turquoise standard license plate design has been ranked No. 1 in the U.S. by The Discoverer Blog travel website.

While lots of states sport all sorts of fancy artwork on their plates, what stood out to the authors of The Discoverer blog ranking was our color scheme.

“Congratulations to all New Mexicans out there, because we believe that your license plate is the best in the country. This is due in no small part to the design’s incredible colors, with its turquoise background and vibrant yellow lettering,” the ranking states.

A couple of our neighbors did OK, as well—Colorado came in at No. 2 and Arizona at No. 3. But Texas? Way down at 52.

Sorry guys, but who are we to argue? After all, it’s not the first time we’ve come up big in the license plate sweepstakes.

The iconic chile plate took top honors in 2017 from the Automobile License Plate Collectors Association.
