PED seeks collaborator for Martinez/Yazzie action plan
SANTA FE – Today, the New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) announced it is seeking potential partners to assist in facilitating the development and drafting of the Martinez/Yazzie remedial action plan.
The Martinez/Yazzie remedial action plan will outline how the state will meet its constitutional obligation to provide all New Mexico students—particularly those at risk due to socioeconomic status, language barriers, disability or tribal affiliation—with access to a uniform and sufficient education.
The agency released a Request For Interest (RFI) document on June 6, outlining the scope of the project and identifying key requirements for applicants. Interested applicants must demonstrate substantial experience in state education systems, programming for at-risk student populations and stakeholder engagement. The RFI also provides expectations and deadlines for participation.
The selected applicant(s) will provide support in identifying and engaging key stakeholders, facilitating public input and drafting the action plan in collaboration with the department’s executive cabinet and legal counsel.
“We look forward to reading the responses to this RFI and selecting the best collaborator for this critically important work,” said Public Education Secretary Mariana D. Padilla.
Letters of interest must be submitted by June 16, 2025, to the Office of the Secretary of Public Education. A final decision on selected applicants will be made by June 20, with project work beginning shortly after. A draft action plan is scheduled for court submission by October 1, 2025, and the final version by November 3.
The release of the RFI follows the district court’s directive for the PED to develop a comprehensive remedial action plan that addresses the 2019 findings in the Martinez/Yazzie case.
