Feature film inspired by director's local roots wraps production

Las Cruces, NM — The feature film "Generational Difficulties" wrapped production in Las Cruces this summer, employing over 40 New Mexicans.

Directed and produced by David Murphy (“Friend Draft”), the project marks a full-circle moment — his path to directing began with an internship at Film Las Cruces, where he discovered the city’s potential as a film destination. That connection ultimately brought the production back to Southern New Mexico.

"This is a rewarding story that comes full circle," said Steve Graham, Director of the New Mexico Film Office . "It shows how our film offices and local programs are not just about business but about building relationships and careers. An internship that inspired a young filmmaker led directly to a production that created jobs and economic opportunity for an entire community."

The film focuses on three men and a boy as they strive to repair their fractured relationships. "My time interning at the Film Las Cruces office was a pivotal experience that opened my eyes to the opportunities in this community,” stated Murphy . “I always knew I wanted to come back and make a film here, and the support we received from the city, local crews, and talent was unparalleled."

The production employed over 40 New Mexico residents, including four crew members, ten principal actors, and 30 background talent members, providing an economic boost for the Las Cruces region.
