Haunting horror thriller "Sweetwater" begins filming in New Mexico
Albuquerque, NM — The New Mexico Film Office announced today that principal photography for the feature film "Sweetwater" is underway in Albuquerque and Tijeras through April.
"Sweetwater" is produced by Corey Victor Ford, Jerome C. Keith, and Mae Joy Harper, co-produced by Todd Spradlin, and written and directed by Harper and Keith. It is a poignant and chilling horror thriller that delves into the depths of grief and the unsettling allure of the unknown.
The story is a haunting narrative centering on a middle-aged woman, Jolene (Kimberley “Kim” Pember), who is grappling with the profound loss of her longtime husband, Mason (Robert “Bobby” Lewis Stephensen), and the terrifying consequences of her desire to bring him back to life.
"As someone who's experienced how alienating grief can be, ‘Sweetwater’ is a story near and dear to my heart that I hope connects with people, so they know they're not alone," Producer Mae Joy Harper said. "I'm so excited to be telling a story about the need to lean on each other, whether you're asking for help or offering it."
"This is a great example of independent voices telling diverse and compelling stories here in New Mexico," Film Office Director Steve Graham said. "Our state continues to provide a fertile environment for emerging filmmakers, and we are happy to support this production"
The production will employ over 40 New Mexicans, including 26 resident crew members, six pri ncipal actors, and ten background talent.
