Albuquerque resident charged with 12 felony counts for tax evasion
SANTA FE – The Taxation and Revenue Department today announces that Albuquerque resident Dennis Pyle has been charged with 12 counts of felony tax evasion.
Pyle, 52, was indicted by a State grand jury on Oct. 17 for tax fraud relating to his business, Earthtech Landscaping. This follows a two-year investigation by Tax & Rev’s Tax Fraud Investigations Division (TFID).
Pyle has been charged with one 2nd degree felony count, eight 3rd degree felony counts, and three 4th degree felony counts of tax evasion. He could face up to 37-and-a-half years imprisonment and $90,000 in fines as a result.
“New Mexico does not tolerate tax fraud, and these indictments serve as a reminder that the Taxation & Revenue Department is committed to tracking down tax criminals and pursuing justice,” said Taxation & Revenue Department Secretary Stephanie Schardin Clarke .
This indictment is the seventh successful indictment in 2025 stemming from investigations by TFID. These indictments include 99 felony counts across four judicial districts and up to $2.96 million in potential fines.
“Investigating individuals and businesses suspected of tax evasion requires diligence and patience, but TFID isn’t afraid to put in the hard work. These indictments show the importance of our work,” said Interim TFID Director Joshua Hoffman .
Pursuant to New Mexico’s criminal sentencing laws, a 2nd degree felony carries a basic sentence of nine years imprisonment and an up to $10,000 fine. A 3rd degree felony carries a basic sentence of three years imprisonment and an up to $5,000 fine. A 4th degree felony carries a basic sentence of 18 months imprisonment and an up to $5,000 fine.
