Santa Fe, NM — New Mexico State Parks is excited to invite the public to celebrate National Public Lands Day and National Hunting and Fishing Day on September 28th, a nationwide event dedicated to promoting the enjoyment and conservation of our public lands. Families and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages are encouraged to participate in this special day, which highlights the beauty and recreational opportunities available in our state parks.
National Public Lands Day promotes the enjoyment and conservation of public lands through volunteerism and popular activities, while National Hunting and Fishing Day recognizes the contributions of hunters and anglers to the conservation of natural resources and sporting heritage through a commitment to sustainable practices.
“The theme for this year’s National Public Lands Day celebration is Together for Tomorrow, which is also a fitting theme for National Hunting and Fishing Day,” said Toby Velasquez, Director of New Mexico State Parks. "Both events recognize the opportunity for all of us to connect with nature, enjoy outdoor activities, and learn about the importance of preserving our public lands.”
Events will be hosted at state parks throughout New Mexico, featuring a wide range of activities designed to engage participants of all skill levels. From guided hikes and wildlife observation tours to hands-on educational programs, there will be something for everyone. Volunteers are also invited to join in conservation projects, including trail maintenance and park cleanups.
In recognition of National Public Lands Day and National Hunting and Fishing Day, New Mexico State Parks will waive entrance fees on September 28th. Visit New Mexico State Parks' website at emnrd.nm.gov/spd/ for more information on park locations, event schedules, and volunteer opportunities.
