Re-Envisioning Math Pathways Listening Tour Schedule—Portales, Deming and Ruidoso
SANTA FE, N.M. - The New Mexico Public Education Department's Math and Science Bureau will conduct a listening tour both online and at various locations across the state to solicit feedback on recommendations for re-envisioning high school math pathways from Feb. 13 to March 4, 2024.
Equitable high school math pathways are an important way to promote equity and access in education, particularly in STEM fields, where there is a significant achievement gap. By offering multiple pathways and providing support for all students, we can help to ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed in math and beyond.
At the beginning of the 2023 calendar year, the Public Education Department convened a working group of stakeholders from K–12 mathematics, postsecondary, workforce informal education and national laboratories to create modern and innovative mathematics pathways aligned with students’ goals and aspirations. The Re-Envision Mathematics Pathways Working Group has developed recommendations for re-envisioning high school math pathways and is now releasing their discussion draft recommendations for public feedback.
We invite the public to read the discussion drafts and provide comments.
Discussion drafts and a public feedback portal are available on the Re-Envisioning Math Pathways website.
The public comment period will close on Monday, March 18 at 11:45 p.m. MT.
The public will have opportunities to hear from working group members during the in-person and virtual listening tour.
