Grand Opening of Old Gumby’s Country Store
Store features hundreds of inmate-crafted items
SANTA FE – The New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD) is excited to announce the grand opening of its new Corrections Industries store, “Old Gumby’s Country Store,” stocked with hundreds of unique, high-quality, and well-priced items created by incarcerated individuals.
“This is more than just a store. The items sold will promote and fund inmate programing in our prisons, thus contributing to the safety of the facilities and communities,” said NMCD Cabinet Secretary Alisha Tafoya Lucero . “The store also provides unique, handcrafted items to the community.”
Old Gumby’s Country Store will feature a wide array of items crafted by inmates from prison facilities across the state. Shoppers can explore a diverse selection of products, including handcrafted furniture, woven rugs and pillows, crochet blankets, paintings, and metalworks; Customers can request personalized items.
In addition to the retail shop, Old Gumby’s Country Store will serve as a starting point for Old Main Prison tours. Visitors who purchase a tour will meet at the store, where they can also find exclusive Old Main merchandise. To purchase tours of Old Main, please visit here.
Proceeds from the sales at Old Gumby’s Country Store will support the Corrections Industries Division, which employs inmate work crews across New Mexico and operates warehouses, print shops, and woodworking shops. The goal is to open the store to the public once a month, depending on inventory.
The public is invited to attend the store’s upcoming grand opening.
