Santa Fe, NM - From potters to political trailblazers, women have been the heartbeat of New Mexico’s rich history for centuries. These remarkable women—artists, activists, educators, entrepreneurs, healers, and more—have shaped our communities in ways that still inspire us today. Through nearly 100 roadside markers statewide, the New Mexico Women Marker Program tells the stories of some of the women who helped shape our culture and society. This Women’s History Month, let’s honor their legacy by visiting these markers to celebrate the accomplishments of women who dared to dream and change this state. The division educates the public about historic preservation and protects thousands of historic and archaeological sites in New Mexico.
