May is a time to celebrate New Mexico’s Nurses
SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Health (NMHealth) recognizes May as National Nurses Month and in particular May 6-12 as National Nurses Week. Nurses contribute to health in multifaceted ways including as educators, innovators and caregivers and are an essential part of our healthcare system.
“I want to personally thank all the nurses who work in New Mexico and especially those who work for the department,” said Patrick Allen, NMHealth Secretary . “Taking time to offer our gratitude, celebration and recognition of the nurses in our communities is the least we can do for the people who have devoted their careers to support – even save – our lives. The difference they make everyday is incalculable.”
The theme of this year’s Nurses Week is “Nurses Make the Difference.” It is a time to encourage healthcare professionals, employers, community leaders and the public to recognize and appreciate the vast contributions and positive impact nurses have made across our state and the world.
“Nurses play a vital role in optimizing health, advancing health equity and ensuring people have access to care and the ability to lead healthy lives,” said Heather Black, Chief Nurse for NMHealth’s Public Health Division . “I join Secretary Allen in thanking all of the nurses working so hard across New Mexico.”
Whether you are a patient, a health care professional or someone who appreciates the dedication of nurses, now is your chance to thank them for all they contribute. Do you know a nurse you want to recognize? Use #ThankANurse and share a picture or a favorite story of a nurse who made a difference in your life and post it to your social media.
