SANTA FE– The New Mexico Corrections Department’s (NMCD) Fiscal Year 2026 budget request proposes strategic investments aimed at improving reentry services, staff recruitment, and cadet training.
“The priorities in this budget proposal reflect our commitment to maintaining public safety, enhancing services, and supporting effective reentry programs benefiting incarcerated individuals and the state of New Mexico,” said NMCD Cabinet Secretary Alisha Tafoya Lucero.
Budget highlights include:
Staff Salaries and Benefits: The request will fund needed staff salaries and benefits in facilities.
Behavioral Health Services: The requested funding will support essential behavioral health services, including substance addiction and mental health treatment.

Recruitment and Training: The New Mexico Corrections Training Academy is included with a request for funds to help strengthen recruitment efforts and ensure that cadets are fully prepared to meet the demands of the corrections profession.
