New dashboard provides substance use and mental health data

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Health is launching a new dashboard to provide more timely substance abuse and mental health data to improve the health outcomes of New Mexicans.

The Substance Use & Mental Health Epidemiology Profile (SUMHEP) Dashboard data includes alcohol-related deaths, drug overdose deaths, and adult and youth mental health indicators from across the state.

“This new tool will help mental health and substance use prevention planners throughout the state on a more consistent basis,” said Luigi Garcia Saavedra , Substance Use Epidemiology Section manager for the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH). “We are moving from an annual report on these data to this dashboard to allow data to be updated as it becomes available.”

The dashboard shows county and statewide data and allows the information to be further broken down by sex and age. Dashboard users can choose to view the data either in single years or in aggregate.

In addition, NMDOH will release quarterly reports using data from the dashboard. Each report will focus on one topic and include information about trends and prevention efforts happening across the state.
