RELEASE: One-of-a-kind Northern New Mexico home added to State Register of Cultural Properties

Hi Everyone,

The New Mexico Historic Preservation Division is excited to announce that one of Rio Arriba’s most distinctive structures – the Franklin MacFie House – has been added to New Mexico’s State Register of Cultural Properties.

Nicknamed “the Hobbit Hut,” this bold, unique dwelling in Rio Arriba County features undulating walls, church windows, and embedded decorative elements like containers, stained glass, and car taillights.
