Senior center Capital Outlay applications open for FY25 Local governments and senior center operators encouraged to apply

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department (ALTSD) is pleased to announce that the application process for Capital Outlay funding is now open for fiscal year 2025. The Capital Outlay program aims to support senior centers across the state by providing financial support for infrastructure and development projects to enhance the quality of life for older New Mexicans.

“ALTSD’s Capital Outlay funds provide a valuable opportunity for local governments to secure support for projects that will benefit communities across our state,” said ALTSD Deputy Secretary Sarah Jacobs. “Additionally, capital outlay funding can provide much needed assistance for senior centers to modernize their activities, services and centers to better serve New Mexicans.” Eligible applicants for Capital Outlay funding include local and Native American tribal governments. Projects will be evaluated based on their potential impact, alignment with state and agency priorities, feasibility and operational sustainability. Funding provided through the Capital Outlay program supports a wide range of initiatives including but not limited to: Renovation and construction

Planning and design for new senior centers

Vehicle purchases and upgrades for senior center transportation & meal delivery

Code compliance

Those interested in applying for capital outlay funding are encouraged to review the guidelines and application checklist available on https://aging.nm.gov//for-our-partners/capital-outlay . The deadline for submission of applications is May 15, 2024.

“The safety and well-being of our state’s older adults and adults with disabilities are paramount to this administration,” said ALTSD Cabinet Secretary Jen Paul Schroer. “Senate Bill 241 represents a critical step forward in our ongoing efforts to modernize agency standards and reinforce the public’s trust in our commitment to transparency and accountability.”

The New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department (ALTSD) was established in 2004 to provide advocacy, support, and resources for seniors and adults with disabilities. The department oversees the state’s Area Agencies on Aging to elevate the quality of care at senior centers, offers advocacy through the Long-Term Care Ombudsman volunteer program, and provides intervention through the agency’s national award-winning Adult Protective Services. Additionally, ALTSD houses the state’s Aging and Disability Resource Center, which offers options counseling, education, and connection to resources.
