San Pedro, Lordsburg officially designated as “NM MainStreet” programs
EDD helps revitalize communities
SANTA FE — After completing New Mexico MainStreet’s (NMMS) Accelerator Program, Revitalize San Pedro Partnership and Lordsburg Economic Advancement Project (LEAP) are now designated New Mexico MainStreet programs.
The districts completed NMMS’s Accelerator benchmarks under six main goals: organizational development, partnerships and collaborations, communication, outreach and engagement, district promotion, business development and physical improvements.
Revitalize San Pedro and LEAP started the NMMS Accelerator Program in January 2024 after completing economic development projects through NMMS’s Project-Based Initiatives. NMMS provided guidance and free professional technical assistance.
Both communities have developed collaborative partnerships with their local governments, engaged with community revitalization projects and grown their organizational capacities for more than a decade.
“These designations speak volumes about the commitment and tenacity of both the San Pedro and Lordsburg communities,” said Economic Development Department Secretary Rob Black . “With vision and persistence, New Mexico’s rural and urban areas continue to demonstrate that they are creating real opportunities for growth and prosperity.”
“San Pedro and Lordsburg’s dedication to community revitalization, economic vitality and historic preservation reflects the highest ideals of the Main Street movement and marks an important milestone in advancing the future visions for these communities,” said Daniel J. Gutierrez, New Mexico MainStreet director.
The most recent communities to earn NMMS designation were Taos and Santa Rosa in 2019.
NMMS, a program of the New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD), is affiliated with Main Street America, an organization dedicated to re-energizing older downtown and neighborhood commercial districts nationwide.
