Ladies Fly Fishing Casting Clinic

Attention ladies of all ages: we still have spots open for our Ladies Fly Fishing Casting Clinic on May 4 and May 11, at the Albuquerque Game and Fish office.

This clinics are open to women new to fly fishing who are seeking to learn or improve their casting skills. Participants will receive instruction and coaching from Trish Valdez and other Trout Unlimited - Bosque Chapter members to gain or improve their fly casting skills. Ladies are encouraged to bring their own if they have it; however, loaner equipment will be available for those who need it. This is for all levels of angler!

Space is limited, so act fast!

Bowhunter Skills Camp

Learn archery basics and safety, how to choose equipment, proper shot placement while hunting, outdoor preparedness, and more!

These camps are for participants of any age who are interested in learning more about the basics of archery and bow hunting. All archery equipment will be provided; however, participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment if they have it.

June 22 at the Lincoln National Forest Office - Registration opens at 9 a.m. on May 28. Click here to register.

Tiger Muskie Fishing Camp

The Department, in conjunction with New Mexico Outdoor Adventures, will host a Tiger Muskie Fishing Camp at Bluewater Lake State Park June 14-16, 2024. Campers will be provided with free instruction, gear and meals. Campers will need to bring their own fishing licenses, tent or wheeled camper, sleeping bag, and sleeping pad.

This camp is open to families and individuals with previous fishing experience who have never fished for tiger muskie.

Registration will open on May 22, starting at 8 a.m. Click here for registration . All participants must have a Department Customer Identification Number (CIN) Account and enter this number onto the registration form. Please only register if you have not previously attended this camp. Those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Fly Fishing 101 Class at Eagle Nest Lake State Park

This class, which takes place June 8, is open to families who are interested in learning the basics of fly fishing. The morning session will focus on fly fishing equipment selection, knot tying, selecting lures/flies, casting instruction and general discussions on where to go. The afternoon session will be on the water! Casting and fishing instruction will be provided by professional fishing guides and Trout Unlimited - Enchanted Circle Chapter volunteers. Loaner equipment will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own if they have it.

This class will be offered by volunteers from the Enchanted Circle Chapter of Trout Unlimited.

Registration is $35 paid to Trout Unlimited to cover class expenses and opens on May 20, at at 9 a.m. Click here to register. Slots will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. To qualify for the camp, participants must have a Customer Identification Number account with the Department.

Safety First! Helmets and Goggles Available to Youth.

Are your kids tired of being inside and itching to hit the trails? The Department is offering several opportunities for your family to take an OHV safety class.

In addition to a certification, youth under 18, who pass an in-person, OHV class will be given a free helmet and goggles to ensure that they are safe before hitting the trails.

OHV in-person classes are currently scheduled in Roswell and Los Lunas. There is also a motorcycle class scheduled in Albuquerque.

- May 3 and 4 - Smokey Bear Days - Capitan, NM

- June 1 and 2 - Free Fishing Weekend - No license required (all other fishing rules apply).

- June 1 - Village of Pecos Free Fishing Day at Monastery Lake. Starting at 9 a.m., the Department will loan fishing rigs, tackle and bait to participants in need of equipment.

- June 1 - Liam Knight Free Fishing Day including activities for OHV, wildlife identification archery and more!

- June 7 - Cimarron Summer Reading Program - Wildlife presentation at the Cimarron Public Library starting at 10:30 a.m.

- June 12 - Moriarty Public Library Wildlife Presentation starting at 10:30 a.m.

- June 18 - Wildlife Presentation at Carlsbad Public Library starting at 2 p.m.

- June 20 - Wildlife Presentation at Rio Rancho Public Library starting at 10:30 a.m.

- June 27 - Wildlife Presentation at Artesia Public Library starting at 11 a.m.
